Melbourne as a local told me “the city of delicious food and amazing coffee”. Come with me on a culinary journey with my list of 9 awesome restaurants in Melbourne.

Melbourne is the 2nd city visited in Australia. Make sure you check my post about Sydney, 50 things to do under 50 euro, https://www.letsenjoyworld.com/things-to-do-under-50-euro-in-sydney/

Breakfast

1 Go to Sister of Soul, a vegetarian place on St. Kilda street. The Ozs say is the place with the best brunch ever. Their breakfast menu has a great variety starting with free range poached eggs and adding vegetables plus burgers, burritos all vegetarian. They have also burgers with halloumi cheese. You have to admit, it’s not easy to have a menu only vegetarian but they did it:-)

Cost: the breakfast is like maximum 20$ plus 6$ a coffee. If you want to keep it simple, order some eggs and avocado – 14$. And a coffee with coconut milk – 6$.

A healthy breakfast perfect for our journey

2 Industry Beans on Rose street, the best place to hang out and enjoy a good quality coffee. I have to thank http://www.melbournegirl.com.au/ for this recommendation. By the way, this is a great blog about Melbourne. They are known for the fact the coffee is roasted there using a special technique.

They have all day breakfast and their dishes look great and tempting. I ordered a super salad with quinoa, salmon, tomatoes, and blueberries. Odd, right? Who puts blueberries in a salad? Let me tell you it was great, the soft taste from quinoa with the blueberries, two different textures that worked perfectly. My boyfriend ordered a uyagu burger, the meat was made just as right and the sauce, divine.

Cost: starting with 18$

Beautiful colors ready to be eaten
The polenta chips are very tasty

3 Bowery JZ to Williamsburg – an American place, near the Hosier lane. Their menu is based on eggs, sandwiches and bagel sandwiches. Or you can create your own sandwich. I don’t recommend their long black coffee, it wasn’t strong enough.

Cost: from 10 – 21 $.

Dinner

4 We head out to Palermo – on Bourke street. When we are talking about steaks, Palermo is the place to be! It’s an Argentinian restaurant and they serve the best beef steak I ever tasted. Also, their staff is so well trained, they know everything about each dish. Their speciality is charcoal grill beef and it’s just delicious! The beef is so tender that you feel how is melting in your mouth. The combination of beef with green beans, lemon, chimi and salsa sauce is tasty, a bit sour but it’s just perfect. Yes, a steak is 39$ but it worth it!

We ended our dinner with a Tartuffo dessert, a parfait with pistachio and black cherries covered with a sauce of dark chocolate and orange😍

Total cost 139$

For sure, Palermo is a must on my list of restaurants in Melbourne!

The dishes are empty and he’s happy! What more can you want?

5 On Hosier Lane just near Flinders street is Movida, a very cute tapas bar, the only spanish place from Melbourne. They have also fresh fish and prawns. Something odd for me is the fact they have some dishes that are from the can. I didn’t try them but looked good. The music is very nice, lounge type and I liked the food is prepared in an open kitchen.

They served us with home made bread, olive oil and salt. We ordered bocadillos, prawns and a salad.

Cost: starting with 4 $ a tapas and a main dish 20 $

6 We ate our lunch at a beautiful place called Claypots Seafood bar. Their terrace is so lush with trees and palm tree. I liked their little wooden boats hanging.

The menu is seafood and fish, it’s a bit pricey but the fish is straight from the port. It’s as fresh as it gets. We ordered shellfish 95 dollars ( 3 crabs, rice, 4 king prawns and mussels), it was a very big portion good to share with 2-3 persons.

Cost – 120$

7 For something cheap but delicious, head out to DC kebab – it’s near the bridge on Flinders street. It looks a bit shady but the kebab is tender and they use very good quality products! I tried the chicken kebab with humous and bbq sauce! The best kebab, this is why I introduced it on my list of restaurants in Melbourne.

Cost 10$ per kebab

Best kebab

Dessert – I’m a foodie and I don’t miss a good desert

8 Try from 95 the merengue lemon cake on St. Kilda street. It’s a very nice combination, a bit sour from the lemon creme but sweet because of the merengue.

Not the best shoot but still amazingly good

Roule Galette – on Flinders street – a cute French crepe. I liked the waiters were speaking English with a French accent. A nice touch for an English city. A place for a dessert or lunch.

Cost: starting with 8$

Rooftops – You can’t visit Melbourne and not hang out on a rooftop bar.

My favorite one is the Cinema bar – situated on 7th floor, perfect for hangouts with your friends, drinking a good beer or wine listening techno music. During the summer, they are also playing movies. The view is very nice.

QT rooftop bar, 11th floor inside of QT hotel. A bit posh but I liked the atmosphere and the music.

This is my list of 9 awesome restaurants in Melbourne. What about you? What are your favorite ones?

Cheers,

Annemarie
