Where to go in winter for beach in Europe?

The answer is Fuerteventura, the place with amazing sand beaches.

Canary Islands are the best and Fuerteventura is one of them.

Fuerteventura is perfect for its amazing beaches and the warm temperatures all year long.

I have to admit is the 1st trip unplanned! We just googled where is warm in winter and we chose this one because the pictures with the water were amazing. So, here we are in Fuerteventura, in Corralejo town because it was closer to the airport.

Transportation

Fuerteventura has one airport – El Matorral Airport, 5 km of the capital city Puerto del Rosario. From here, you can rent a car or take the bus to Puerto del Rosario which is a connection point for other cities.

I have to admit, Fuerteventura is a small island but with a very good transport networking. From airport, you can go anywhere on island. They have routes for all the important beaches. You can find the schedule in the bus station.  Also, the drivers are very polite and speak English, French and German. Here, you can find the public transport info.

You can purchase a Bono card on the bus, the card costs 2 €, the minimum  is 10 € and the maximum is 50 €. You have 5% discount/ fare and you can share it. It’s a good way if you don’t want to have cash. The bus fare is 1.45€ from Caleta to Puerto del Rosario for a single fare. I preffered to pay cash, the downside, you must have coins or small change.

Weather

We’ve been at the beginning of March and the weather was tricky! In the morning until 11 am, it was windy and we had to buy a hoodie because it was cold. My boyfriend liked it, it was perfect for surf 🏄‍♀️. During the day, there were 30 degrees celsius, perfect for sunbathing but the water was cold and you couldn’t do a bath. If in March is so hot, I don’t want to imagine how is it in July / August. In the evening, it was cold, you had to have a jacket.

Here are my favorite places from Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is a perfect place for its beaches and the turquoise waters. We spent most of time sunbathing and walking on the beach. The sound of waves crashing on the shore is one of the most relaxing sound for me. Fuerteventura has a lot of places to visit but we  just wanted to chill out and relax. So, here are my favorite places.

El Cotillo is an old fisherman village where you can find fresh and delicious sea food. You can take the bus from Corralejo, 30 minutes away.

El Cotillo has some amazing beaches and the water is just like in Caribbean. The Laguna’s have a perfect turquoise color. From what I could tell, El Cotillo was recently renovated. Some of the walls were painted in beautiful and relaxing colors but they managed to keep the vibe of an old fisherman town.

On lunch you can go in the village and eat some fresh sea food.

I recommend going on La Vaca Azul, is an old restaurant with an amazing food. Best part, they have a great view, unfortunately the deck was full, so we stayed inside. I liked how is decorated and the waiter was very nice and polite.

Corralejo is a very nice town, perfect for tourists. You have a city centre for shopping and a lot of restaurants, terraces to eat. They even have an aqua park. I liked we could see the Spanish style in the city with the houses colored in white and brown.

Where to eat?

La Bodeguita is a local place with great Spanish food. The waiter was very helpful in giving us information about the plates, we asked for something local and he brought us some delicious tapas! The best part, we spent like 7 euro and we were full.

Another great place, is La Arroceria. It was 5 minutes walk from our hotel. We had a huge paella with sea food. It was delicious.

Yeah, Corralejo is nice but it’s amazing because there is Corralejo Natural Park of sand, 7 km distance of it. You have 10 km only with white sand dunes and you can walk or bike.

The best part is the Coralejo beach which is on the other side of the road.  You have an amazing view with the ocean on the side and dunes of shinny sand on the other side. I was blown away of the immensity of the park. I never been to Sahara desert but I felt like I was there because there were a lot of sand dunes. As you can imagine, we walked all day and climbed each sand dune we met.

Jandia beach

We arrived in the evening, so I can’t tell you how beautiful is the water but you must see it. The beach is enormous and there is a lighthouse. At least, we saw the sunset which was beautiful. Jandia is a place where you can find a lot of luxurious hotels and stores. So, if you want to buy a diamond jewelry, this is the place.

In conclusion, Fuerteventura is a beautiful place with decent prices. I would love to return maybe in June when it will be much warmer and I can enjoy also the water.
