Waikiki is a very nice area, bustling with people. The beach is beautiful, especially during the sunset when all the lights are on.
In Waikiki, there are plenty of healthy food places with a beach view from which you can choose depending on your budget.
Just keep in mind the majority of restaurants are inside the hotels.
Don’t worry, the prices are reasonable, there isn’t a dress code and for sure you can eat a delicious meal with less than $50.
Where to find healthy and at the same time delicious food?
If you’re like me, not having time to search for food places before the vacation, this post is perfect for you.
We had difficulties where to eat because we didn’t know the area and we were looking for local fresh food and light.
Maybe you are like me or not, these are my top places with healthy and delicious food from Waikiki, Hawaii.
How do I choose where to eat?
- The proximity – I wanted something walkable (20-30 min) or near Waikiki beach;
- Good reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor
- An affordable price – around $60 per person for dinner
I’m a fan of healthy food, and I love steaks but not so much Thai or Chinese food. I like comfort food but also I want to look good at the beach.
Here are my places where you can find delicious and light food.
1 Heavenly is the place for a healthy breakfast. It’s right beside the Hyatt so you have to wait until 10 AM to find a place. It looks like a hipster place, no fancy dress code, wooden tables, and colorful walls and the people are smiling. Maybe that’s why I love it. I like meeting happy people.
They serve fresh vegetables, their smoothies are healthy made of cereals and delicious fruits and their bread is whole grain. Their coffee wasn’t so good. I don’t know if it’s because of my bad luck in finding a good quality coffee or is the same everywhere.
The cost for an omelette, eggs benedict, smoothie, tiramisu, and coffee: just over $50.
Ideal for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
2 Paia fish market, it’s not a fancy restaurant, it’s a counter-service place. They prepare the local fresh fish as steak, sauteed, cajun style or blackened. The portions are huge and there is a familiar atmosphere.
We’ve ordered one steak fish, one blackened, salad, fries and rice, beers.
Total cost: 40$
3 Yard house, it’s a pub with comfort food. Honestly, after 10 km walking, a portion of fries sounds amazing.
They have lots of draft beer specialties and from 2 – 5.30 PM it’s happy hour.
I’ve ordered a crab pie, never taste it but I was craving seafood and this was the healthier option. The meat crab with butter and pastry dough was perfect after a long day. My partner ordered a big burger with french fries on a side and salad.
The cost: 60$
4 DK steak house, right on the beach inside the Marriot hotel. Our receptionist, Gary, recommended this place as the best for steaks. I advise you to book at least one day ahead. I don’t know if everything was booked because of the New Year’s Eve vacation or it’s like this all the time. We had a balcony view and during sunset, it’s amazingly beautiful. Now, the food is perfectly cooked to our liking.
We had veal fillet and T-bone with a side of asparagus and a baked potato. The portions are huge and you don’t need anything else after that. They have a good selection of wines and the people are very nice.
The cost: 120$
5 Tikis Grill and Bar, right on the beach, just make sure you’re coming early because it’s full. It’s a beachy bar with light and gluten-free food. The cocktails were with alcohol and the barman was super nice and prepared for me a watermelon cocktail alcohol-free.
The food is delicious, all the ingredients are fresh and they have a great view of the beach.
Cost: Thai salad, 3 cocktails, poke – 63$
6 If you’re starving after a surf session, go to La Cucaracha Mexican bar and grill. It’s 5 minutes from Waikiki beach, they have a great selection of Mexican beers and their nachos are great, crunchy and soft inside.
We’ve ordered a burrito and a quesadilla plate with a rich portion of guacamole.
Total cost: 45 $
7 Eggs’n Things, established in 1974, the restaurant is the most well-known place in Oahu. Honestly, I don’t understand why. You have to stand in an infernal queue and you have to make your order as soon you enter. You can’t change it and their specialty is on eggs.
So, we ordered an omelette with home fried potatoes, traditional Loco Moco and 3 pancakes. The Loco Moco is a traditional Hawaiian dish made with eggs, island Portuguese sausages, rice, and mushrooms. I’ve tasted but I didn’t like it. The omelette was full of oil and the potatoes were the same. I don’t like oily stuff so it was very hard to eat. The pancakes looked like plastic like they were bought from a supermarket. I don’t know how their dinner menu is, but their breakfast is not for me.
Maybe you’re wondering why did I put it as a recommendation. It has a lot of publicity, read about it on over 10 travel blogs and I don’t want to have high expectations and to be disappointed like me.
Total cost: 34$
This is my list of healthy places to eat. I highly recommend visiting Hyatt Farmers Market – you can buy fresh fruits, papaya, mango, and pineapple, among other tropical fruits. And you have to taste their malasadas, a Portuguese doughnut filled with chocolate or just coated with granulated sugar. And of course, their pineapple, it’s so juicy and fresh.
I hope you enjoyed it and do let me know other places with healthy food in Waikiki.
