Biarritz is a small city, in the South of France, 2 hours by train from Bordeaux.
First thing that comes in mind, it’s the glamorous and rich French architecture with the beautiful buildings and chic hotels. And the relaxed vibe from the surfing bars.
Biarritz, things to do
On our way to Biarritz, we had a stop in Milano, enjoyed a delicious pizza and I dislocated my ankle. So, our plans of visiting the nearby places, were ruined and we spent 1 week only in Biarritz. Which was very nice staying in one place, sunbathing and relaxing.
1 Walk along the beach when the tide is low. We walked until we arrived at Marina beach, a quiet and lovely beach, perfect for families or couples.
2 For swimming, the Port Vieux beach from the centre of the town is ideal for this. I liked that the water from there was hotter than the ocean. And the beautiful emerald colour of the water made me swim despite of the 15 degrees celsius.
3 Go on the beach and watch the sunset!
Buy a bottle of wine, french cheese from the local market, a delicious french baguette and have a private dinner with a great view.
4 Go to Port de Pêcheurs. You will find places with fresh sea food and cheap.
5 Visit the Biarritz Lighthouse. We arrived after 7 PM, so we couldn’t enter. But, there is a very nice view and the road is beautiful with old houses and the beach on the next side.
6 Rocher de la Vierge – I love this view because you can see the contrast between the infinite ocean and the rocks that have been sitting there for centuries.
7 Les Halles de Biarritz – it’s a great place to eat a delicious breakfast and see how the locals live. I must confess, I’ve been there every day because I just loved the atmosphere and of course the awesome food.
8 Go to Chez Albert restaurant- they have a huge plateau of sea food. It’s mostly for tourists so you will not find many locals. Maybe, because the place is a bit expensive. For us, it was one of the best nights.
In the evening, if you want local food and french atmosphere, I recommend you Les Halles area. There are lots of restaurants and pubs with good food and great atmosphere. There was a karaoke night and I felt like I was in the 50’s with Edith Piaf’s songs.
9 Last but not the least, Cote des Basque. Is the ideal place for surfing.
Biarritz is an amazing place. You have the ocean, the amazing views and delicious food. Perfect place if you want to taste the French lifestyle.
