Tenerife is the place where I would love to spend all my days. I like it’s warm all the time, the beaches are insanely beautiful, prices are decent and the food is delicious. Another amazing place with warm temperatures that I love is Fuerteventura island, from Spain also.
I lived for 2 months in Playa de las Americas, Tenerife and it was the best idea ever. To be honest, I thought I will get bored staying 2 months in the same place but I was so so wrong. It was my dream come true. After work, go to the beach, enjoy relaxing swimming, and watch the sunset by the sea. And, Tenerife has some amazing sunsets. All sounds amazing but a girl has to eat also, right? That’s why I made a list of the best places to eat in Tenerife.Β
The disadvantage of staying in a tourist location such as Playa de las Americas, the food is not that great. Finding restaurants, places with appetizing food and not overpriced was a bit harder than I thought it will be.
No worries! If fresh ingredients with a touch of local cuisine are your thing, “Best places to eat in Tenerife” is for you.
Location-wise, some of the restaurants are 20 – 40 min walk from Playa de las Americas or 1-2 hours by car ideal for the weekend.
I travel with my partner and the cost is for 2 people without drinks.
The locations are casual, suitable for a delightful lunch or a night out.
Best places to eat in Tenerife – Los Cristianos
1 La Piazzetta is a pizza place in Los Cristianos and everything’s absolutely delicious. They have a wood fire oven and they prepare pizza in the Neapolitan way. Never been to Naples but if pizza is as good as here, I will definitely visit it.
I liked the staff was always polite and helpful in choosing the right pizza. Plus, the pizza is ready in a max of 15 minutes and each time was succulent and tasty. My favorite one is the Ricotta pizza filled with yummy ricotta cheese.
Price: decent, 10 euro pizza
Location: Los Cristianos, 40 minutes walk from Playa de las Americas; the closest beach is Las Vistas.
It’s not Spanish food but it was the best restaurant when I needed something quickly and mouth-watering.
2 El Ventorrillo is a homemade Canarian food restaurant. Here, I met the most charismatic waiter who knew each dish how it’s made. The presentation itself was a culinary show not to mention the food.
I recommend coming after 1 hour of swimming or skipping lunch to fully enjoy it.
The staff’s passion, the pictures of Tenerife from a long time ago, and the old decorations, a place with a history, this is what I liked here.Β
We ordered Timbale of Batata and Almogrote with Palma honey which is a mix of sweet potatoes and cheese. Never thought to combine these two but it was incredibly good. Then we ate a stew with goat meat and fish plus dessert made in the Canarian way.
Price: ranges between 6-15 euros per dish
Location: Los Cristianos, 20 minutes walk from Playa las Americas, Las Vistas beach is the closest.
If you want to taste Canarian food, this is the place.
Best places to eat in Tenerife – Playa de las Americas
Playa de las Americas is my favorite location because you have lots of restaurants, bars and there are multiple beautiful beaches. In 5-10 minutes, you’re at the beach and you don’t need a car to get there.
3 Bocaditos &Mar is a tapas restaurant with an amazing view of the ocean. Here you can find paella, seafood, tapas, pasta.
Price: paella plus a tapas menu – 50 euros
Location: Adeje – 10 minutes walk from Playa las Americas along with the beach
An awesome sunset view, next to the beach and big portions.Β
4 Meson Castellano it’s the place for a juicy steak, more for the locals from what I saw.
I liked the location how it’s decorated in a traditional Spanish way, they have lots of maturated meats and a big wall of wine bottles. I wasn’t crazy about the staff or the atmosphere. It’s an advantage to know Spanish and to know exactly what you want.Β
Price: pricey but worth it
Location: Playa de las Americas, close by Camison beach
Nice for a Sunday evening, an appetite for steak, or a special occasion.
5 El Rincon de Roberto it’s a tapas bar and restaurant in Vila Flor, a small Canarian village.
I liked the food is simply decorated and that they’re using fresh ingredients. The owner is not the most polite person but he gave us some great recommendations on what to order.
We ordered grilled halloumi cheese, salmon, and chicken.
Price: cheap, starting with 3 euros
Location: Vila Flor, you can stop by on your way to Teide Volcano
The food is light, flavourful, ideal for a sunny lunch.
6Β Agua Y Sal it’s a fishing restaurant in Tajao, a fishing village. The ordering part is quite interesting. At the entrance, they show all the fresh fish they caught and you chose what you want to eat before going to your table.
I liked the nautical decoration with little boats and fishing nets. Is nice they give recommendations on how to prepare the fish or what fish to choose depending on your tastes.
We ordered grilled shrimps, oysters, and fish prepared in salt.
Price: 19.80 euros / kg, fresh fish
Location: Tajao, 2 hours drive from Playa las Americas. It’s a small fishing village with a lot of charm and a very nice beach.
This place is perfect for fish lovers. I recommend making a reservation during the weekend.
7Β Cofradia De Pescadores – This is a small place in the Harbor of Candelaria where you can find fresh fish for a bargain price. It’s a family business and the locals are sure enjoying it after seeing the long queue.
Here can find fresh fish caught in the ocean on that day.Β
We ordered a portion of chopitos, sardines from the Atlantic ocean, the famous patata arrugadas (traditional boiled potato) accompanied by the Mojo sauce.
Price: cheap, only 18 euros
Location: Candelaria, Tenerife
This place is as fresh as it gets. I recommend ordering takeaway, itβs much faster and you can eat it while overlooking the ocean.
Usually, itβs pretty busy. The waiting time is 30-40 minutes and it’s open only 11 AM – 4 PM.
This is my list of the best places to eat in Tenerife. Let me know yours. For more places from Rome, Australia, check out the food category.
Enjoy,
Annemarie
